Communication is the key to our lives. Without the spoken word we have trouble communicating with others. All parents work diligently to get their small child to speak. They will stand for hours over the child saying dada, mama, or etc. So this makes me wonder, is our first word more important to us or to our parents? Could it be that it is more important at that moment than in any other time in our life? Have you ever given this much thought? A parent can not wait for their child to begin talking but strange that by age 3 they want them to hush.
Communication is the key for the born again believer also. Unlike a small child in the natural, the first word is not just any word but is the actual Word of God spoken through them. Theirs is the Rhema (spoken) word of God, and the Logos (written) word of God that comes to them that will be the beginning of a communication that will last forever. The difference between the natural and the spirit is that God never tires of His children asking questions or just repeating back what they have heard.
Just as a natural parent can not wait for the child to begin to speak, our Heavenly Father can not wait for the born again believer to speak to Him in prayer and call him Abba (daddy) Father. The Word of God says we will speak with new tongues, with stammering lips and as the Spirit gives the utterance (ability to speak). Just like the new born baby will speak the language of their birth parents so the born again believer has the ability to speak the language of their Heavenly Father.
The old saying we were taught as a child that says "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me" is a lie from the pit of hell. Sure sticks and stone can break bones but the breaks will heal. Words can kill the soul of a child, can damage their self image, can prevent them from ever walking in victory. All of us from the youngest to the oldest should remember that our first "Word" to someone needs to bring life and not death, blessing not cursing, hope not despair to the person we are speaking too even if we are only talking to ourselves.
